A company established in April 2025 called Harvest Med Waste Disposal LLC has approached the government of Blount County, Alabama, regarding locating a proposed medical waste disposal facility there.
An announcement posted to the Facebook page of the Blount County Commission says in part, “On June 10, 2025, at its regularly scheduled meeting, the Blount County Commission received an application for [a] proposed solid waste facility from Harvest Med Waste Disposal LLC. “
In its announcement the Blount Count County Commission lists several steps that will take place after the filing of such an application, including the sending of notices “to each owner whose property is adjacent to the proposed site, sent by certified mail.”
In addition to the mailed notices, the commission says other means of communicating the application will include “publication of [the] notice of application in the Blount Countian by the Blount County Commission, broadcasting public service announcements on local radio by the Blount County Commission, publishing [the] notice on the Blount County Commission website, public awareness sessions conducted by the applicant” and the promotion of those sessions by Harvest Med Waste Disposal.
The commission says a review of the application will be conducted the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Blount County before that body issues any potential recommendation.
Additionally, “a public vote at a public held meeting of the Blount County Commission either approving or denying the application” is listed as another step in the published statement.
The commission lists several criteria it will examine when it reviews the application, including “the impact of the proposed facility on public safety and provisions made to minimize the impact on public health and safety, and the social and economic impacts of the proposed facility on the affected community, including changes in property values, and social or community perception.”
A website with an Alabama phone number appears to have been set up by Harvest Med Waste Disposal. That site says a “full website experience [is] coming soon,” and refers to Harvest as a firm that “offers faith-fueled, service focused, cost-efficient medical waste management.”
A news article posted to the Birmingham-based ABC3340 website quotes Dyer as saying the proposed facility will shred inbound medical waste and deploy “ozone treatment” to disinfect it.
“There’s no odor, no harmful emissions; it’s not an incinerator,” Dyer tells the TV media outlet. He indicates types of waste to be processed could include gloves and plastic tubes generated at medical and dental offices, and the firm plans to engage in document destruction activities.
